How to build a bonfire reading comprehension : Year 2 / Bonfire Night

This resource is a comprehension activity for year 2. There are three differentiated booklets on how to build a bonfire (with an adult). Each booklet has a title page with useful words followed by four pages of information with questions on each page. There are a range of ‘who,’ ‘what,’ ‘how,’ ‘where’ and ‘why’ questions. There are also multiple choice questions and some that require more detailed answers. The higher ability booklet has 15 questions in total. The middle ability has 14 and the lower ability has 12 questions. There is a colour and black & white booklet for each level. Answers are also included. You could use this comprehension around bonfire night or at other times of the year. It would also work well alongside forest school lessons. PDF file format. Each page contains a short piece of text (about 3-7 sentences). There are 3-4 trickier words on each page which have pictures to help children work out what they say. Each text is followed by 4-5 simple questions. Lower Ability The lower ability booklet contains a title page, followed by five pages of comprehension activities with answers. Each page contains a short simple piece of text (3-5 sentences). There are 4-5 trickier words on each page with pictures to help children work out what they say. Each text is followed by 4-5 simple questions. PowerPoint Presentation There is also a PowerPoint included in the pack containing a slide for each text from the middle ability booklet so that you can go through these comprehensions before the children complete them. The theme for the booklet is Thanksgiving in the USA and is perfect to use with children outside America to teach about the American version of harvest. There are three differentiated booklets. The higher booklet has two pages of information for the children to read before they complete 2 pages of 'what, ‘when,’ ‘who’ and ‘why’ questions, true or false questions and multiple choice questions. This is a similar layout to KS2 SATs. There are 14 questions in total. The middle and lower ability booklets have the information split into separate pages with questions on each page.
